TESTING SCHEDULE

 

 

SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS

  • Arrive to class on time

  • Come to class with a positive attitude

  • Come to class prepared every day

  • Bring a notebook, paper, daily planner/calendar

  • Bring a pencil and erasable pen

  • Bring their textbook every day

  • Have a dictionary available

  • Complete their homework

  • Make sure all work turned in is neat & legible

  • Study every night.  There is no substitute for daily studying

  • Go back & review

  • Aren't afraid to look ahead in the book to see what is coming up

  • Ask questions when they don't understand

TIPS FROM THE CLASS OF 2006

  • Attend all of your classes

  • Talk to your teachers

  • Join a school activity: athletics, clubs, Link Crew and so on

  • Set up study groups

  • Attend tutorials (Click here to print a tutoring schedule) Not available yet

  • Do your homework

  • Stay focused and apply yourself

  • Don't do drugs or party a lot

  • Take school seriously

  • Take AP Classes

  • Get lots of sleep

  • Check with your counselor often

DEVELOP A FOUR PLAN

9th Grade:       Freshman Year

  • Begin a four-year plan

  • Talk to your counselor about core class requirements.

  • Become familiar with UC/CSU College entrance requirements.

  • Work on your grades! Aim for As and Bs in all of your classes.

  • Start thinking about your academic and career goals.

  • Start working on your service learning hours.

  • Attend College/Career Exploration Night at CSULB in November.

10th Grade:        Sophomore Year

  • Review your four-year plan.

  • Keep your grades up.

  • Make preliminary inquiries about colleges.

  • Take the PLAN (pre-ACT) test.

  • Take the PSAT (pre-SAT) test (required for 10th graders) and use the results to assess your strengths and where you need to improve.

  • Take the California High School Exit Exam (required for graduation).

 

 

11th Grade:        Junior Year

  • Talk to your counselor about career goals and core course requirements.

  • Continue to take college preparatory classes needed for UC/CSU admission if you are eligible to do so.

  • Take PSAT again in the Fall.

  • Take the SAT or ACT in the spring.

  • Refine your list of possible college choices and their entrance requirements.

  • Develop a resume.

  • Start talking to teachers, coaches, administrators and counselors about letters of recommendation.

  • Register with NCAA Clearinghouse if you are interested in pursuing athletics at a college/university for Division I or Division II. 

  • Take the ASVAB test if you are interested in enlisting with the armed forces or want to explore career opportunities. 

 

12th Grade:        Senior Year

  • Make sure you have all graduation requirements and core courses.

  • Must have taken the ACT or SAT by December for UC/CSU admission.

  • Narrow your college choices to two or three.

  • Make sure you have applications for admission and transcripts sent to colleges that you are interested in attending.

  • Sit down with your parents and list the pros and cons of each school you are considering.

  • Turn in your senior resume form in October.

  • Apply for scholarships. 

  • Attend financial aid workshops in December.

  • Complete and file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by March 2nd

  • Make copies of all forms.

  • Fill out the senior survey.
